Life Transitions Counseling
Learn to Navigate Change and Create the Positive, Lasting Transformation You Desire and Deserve
We all experience transitions throughout our lives …
We graduate from college and enter the workforce, start and end relationships, relocate, change jobs and careers, have children, and send our children off to school. We watch our children change as they grow older, go to school, and start relationships, careers, and families of their own. In fact, if there’s one constant in life, it’s change.
Change is natural. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Any change in our lives – regardless of whether the change is planned for or unexpected – can lead to feelings of uncertainty, anxiety, and fear.
Why?
Because change causes us to leave our comfort zones – what we’re used to – whether what we’re used to has been working or not.
Sometimes life thrusts change upon us unexpectedly. Disabling accidents, a major illness, being laid off, retirement, divorce, a death in the family – these types of events can catch us completely off-guard and leave us struggling with denial, depression, and anger as we’re forced to let go, leave something behind, and adjust to a new way of living, even though we feel totally unprepared to do so.
But not all transitions arise from “negative” experiences.
Marriage, a new job, a move to a new location, and the birth of a child – these events, which may be planned and expected – can also lead to anxiety, stress, and self-doubt.
And then there are the times we feel we need to make a change, but we don’t know what needs changing.
You may feel stuck, like a ship without a rudder. You’ve done everything you were “supposed” to do – you’re married, have a good job, you may even have a child you love deeply – but there’s this nagging feeling that something is missing, although you can’t quite put your finger on what. Your life just doesn’t feel as fulfilling, as joyous, as you thought it would or should, and time seems to be slipping away from you as you go through the motions of everyday life.
The good news is that every life transition, no matter what it is, is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and what you want out of life.
And this is what life transitions counseling and therapy are all about … discovering who you really are and creating the positive, lasting change you desire and deserve!
Why Counseling and Therapy for Life Transitions?
While it’s perfectly natural to feel uncertain, anxious, and even afraid when faced with dramatic changes, if your mind is always racing from one thought to the next, you’re losing sleep at night, or you’re constantly second-guessing your priorities, needs, and decisions, you’ll find it next to impossible to objectively evaluate our situation, options, and the best course of action.
This is just as true if you’re at that point in life where you feel like you need to make a change, but you don’t know what needs changing.
In order to change the way we think, feel, and behave, we first need to slow down and acknowledge how we’re thinking, feeling, and behaving in the present.
Professional counseling and therapy offer you an opportunity to do just this … slow down, reflect, and objectively evaluate what you’re going through and the choices you have available.
Better still, counseling and therapy can help you access your own inner strengths and resources to successfully navigate whatever change you’re experiencing, as well as make sure you’re asking yourself the right questions, so you can better understand yourself and create the change you desire.
As an inclusive group of counselors and psychotherapists that help a wide range of clients with a variety of issues, Mindful Practices’ therapists have helped countless individuals navigate and create change using an integrative approach that’s tailored to each person’s needs.
For example, we may use:
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help you transform the way you think about and react to change;
- Mindfulness Therapy to help you increase your awareness and focus, so you can pay attention to how you feel and what you want to change;
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy to work through and resolve the any subconscious thoughts and beliefs that are making change difficult to cope with or achieve; and
- Motivational Interviewing to be more empathetic with yourself, and become more empowered to create the change you seek.
And that’s to name just a few!
We have therapists who specialize in grief counseling who can help you understand the stages of grief and process your loss. We offer anxiety therapy and depression treatment services, and even provide family therapy for when a particular difficult change is affecting several family members simultaneously.
All of this is to say that we offer a variety of techniques to help our clients navigate change and create positive, lasting transformation in their relationships and lives.
You already have all of the answers you need within you. It’s our job to use the best possible approach to help you find them – whatever that approach may be.
Can Life Transitions Counseling and Therapy Help You?
Change is a constant. We need to learn to be comfortable with change, and that can only happen when we understand and are comfortable with ourselves. And there are few better means of achieving this type of self-understanding and self-acceptance outside of professional counseling and psychotherapy.
That being said, only you can decide whether or not professional counseling and therapy are right for you.
However, knowing you can use some help and asking for it are signs of personal responsibility and strength. Getting help when you need it means you’re taking care of you. And for that, I commend you.
No matter how difficult the transition you’re facing may seem, know that you CAN navigate change successfully and come through it with greater understanding, confidence, and optimism about the future.
You CAN create the positive, lasting changes in your life you desire and deserve. And we can help!
