LGBTQIA+ Friendly, Affirming Counseling Provided by an LGBTQ+ Therapist
Access the Support and Understanding You Need and Deserve to Celebrate Who You Truly Are
We’re all unique individuals with different ways of understanding and interacting with the world. And regardless of age, lived experiences, background, race, or sexual orientation, many have benefited from professional counseling and psychotherapy at some point or another.
Unfortunately, people who identify as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) communities often face discrimination in counseling and mental health settings, even if only due to a lack of provider knowledge, understanding, or biases on the part of individual counselors and therapists.
At Mindful Practices, we work towards creating a client-centered, “human first” approach to counseling and psychotherapy, meaning we’re here to meet you where you’re at – mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually – and provide a non-judgmental space for you to work through and resolve whatever issues you’re facing.
We also understand the unique needs and experiences of those within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Many of our team members have received training in LGBTQIA+ issues, have worked closely with LGBTQIA+ clients, and are themselves members of LGBTQIA+ community and LGBTQ+ therapists.
In other words, whether or not you’re looking for support with issues related directly to your gender identity, sexual orientation, and/or gender expression, we provide an environment that is safe, welcoming, affirming, and empowering.
Can an LGBTQ+ Therapist Help You?
While the focus of counseling and therapy commonly involves supporting our clients through anxiety and stress, depression, and traumatic experiences, as well as successfully navigating grief and loss and other life transitions, we know that there are many challenges uniquely experienced within the LGBTQIA+ community and we’re here to help you:
- Explore questions and concerns around, and increase your comfort level with, your sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression (including any social, legal, and/or medical transitions);
- Navigate the personal and social process of coming out;
- Handle the “heteronormativity” and bias that are so prevalent in our society and everyday life;
- Cope with and overcome any shame, discrimination or abuse you’ve experienced due to your sexual identity, especially from your family of origin or in the workplace;
- Deal with any estrangement or relationship loss that occurs when coming out; and
- Better understand who you are and live a more authentic life in the face of family and societal expectations and pressures.
We also offer adolescent and teen counseling for LGBTQ+ teens as they navigate questions and stressors around their gender identities, as well as family therapy and parent coaching for a holistic approach.
And we’re also actively involved in providing you support and creating systemic change, healing, and growth at both the individual and community levels.
In short, we’re an inclusive and affirming group of counselors and LGBTQ+ therapists that help a wide range of clients with a variety of challenges.
Mindful Practices’ LGBTQ+ therapists validate and respect the gender identities of all of our clients and we’ve helped countless members of the LGBTQIA+ community to heal, grow, and come to see their identities as a source of pride.
We look forward to helping you do the same!
